Child Obesity and Breast Cancer

 Friday, August 13, 2010

Woke up and saw this article, Early Puberty in Girls: What Are the Social Consequences?, which says that girls are hitting puberty as early as 7!! That is scary and really worrisome, not only because early puberty onset is linked to breast cancer, but also because of all the social implications this has for girls.

So why is this happening?  Child obesity is believed to be one of the chief causes of early onset of breast development and menstruation, along with environmental chemicals (e.g., BPA in plastic bottles).  Body fat makes estrogen, which triggers the early onset of breast development and menstruation.

On my earliest post this week, I wrote about the link between high fructose corn syrup and obesity.  The only way to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from your diet is to stop eating all processed foods, including fast food.

If you have a daughter or someone you care about, please pass this information along.
